so im getting a dog this weekend. and i have no idea from where. i know this may sound like a really stupid question but the dog we currently have was from our neighbors dog , because it had puppies. I really dont feel like buying one of the internet because ive heard things. or they may be puppy milled. I live in ohio. I know petland and pick of the litter only 2 stores i know in the mall that sells animals. are there any other stores ? or i also know from the animal shelter. is really safe to get one from there ?

I just cleaned the kitty litter box (which is in the basement) and I found 4 very very small dark brown worms that were curled in a U. Not IN the box, but about 2-3 feet away from it. Some Pet Rat Questions and Help?

So I got two male rats form the local animal shelter. Oreo and Snickers. They are both six weeks old and litter mates. I got Oreo the day before because I didn't know they would get lonely with just one rat. I went back the next day and got snickers. The shelter put him in a large hamster ball for the ride home and I noticed he was sneezing. Oreo was fine I never heard him sneeze. Anyhow after I put them in the cage the next day Oreo was sneezing to. It’s not all the time but it is a couple times ever hour or two. I have been researching upper respatory infections and I know that they are contagious but they don’t have another symptom besides sneezing. They both have clear eyes no discharge no runny nose no patches on their skin or anything. Also the closest vet is about 80 miles away. I have only had them three days. Do you think it’s just a little cold or something serious? Please help I’m already worried about losing them. They don’t use cedar or pine bedding because I know that isn’t good. Swollen pain in the left side of my stomach what is it ?

Blonde roots, black hair?

So I dyed my hair black a month ago, now I want to go back to my natural color which is medium to light brown but I don't want to wait. Diarrhea for 3 days now 31 weeks pregnant?

I've had diarrhea for 3 days now. I have no other symptoms. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and on modified bed rest for preterm labor. I have had contractions on and off but nothing too serious. I do not feel sick to my stomach and I am not running a fever. I am not lactose intolerant and do not change my cats litter box. I am 25% effaced but not dilated. The baby has been moving perfectly fine. I went to my ob office yesterday and I am in perfect health according to the midwife. I have increase mucous like discharge but my water has not broken. The baby is engaged. Am I getting ready to go into labor? Also, I was bottling my leaking colostrum since I think it'd be stupid to let it go to waste and giving to my toddler who is 21 months old (I have been just sitting with a bottle underneath my nipples to catch it I have not expressed it) but now it turned from yellow to clearish white so my actually breast milk is coming in. Is this labor? I was induced with my first so I don't know what the signs of labor are. OB office doesn't seem too concerned.

Kitty litter training please?

Well i have a 6Week old kitten that is an orphan because his mom got run over and killed when he was 3weeks old. I have been having to rub his bottom so he can pee and poop, but lately hes been doing that on his own all around the house. I have been trying to put him in the litter box but he just wont go there, he'll get right out. He just goes and finds a quiet place to pee and sometimes poop but he wont use the litter box. What can i do so he can use the litter instead of pooping or peeing everywhere? By the way i use any kind of litter, its actually called "Fresh Step- Clay Cat Litter-Non Clumping". Its no special kind of litter and i don't know if that's part of him not wanting to use it. :( Help!

Any thoughts on a congested kitten?

I have a nine week old kitten who has been sneezing quite a bit. He's acting normal (as far as I can tell I've only had him two days) he eats, drinks, uses the litter box and plays, but the only problem is he sounds somewhat congested and sneezes very often. This way my husband and I agree that i remain the wholly creative woman he fell in love with. I concentrate on my art and yoga and the time i give my children , i give it 100%. I'm not some frazzled bedraggled looking hag trying to juggle motherhood with some deadbeat job. I decided motherhood is my calling and i wholly embrace it. Not fit it in around some crummy little job. I have 4 lovely babies, 6yrs, 4yrs, 3yrs, and 18 months. I am trying for one more to complete my perfect family but it is not happening so readily even though we are trying this past 6 months. Any advice, i'm getting worried.

What was the larvae I just found on my arm?

It was very small, looked just like a maggot, similar in color, but did not have a dark spot on its face. It was also smooth and appeared to be shiny or slimy, and didn't have the ridges that maggots have. He would balloon his face/upper body up and seemed to crawl kind of like an inch worm. My cat has a bad case of diarrhea.?

Hi, me and my roommate just got a kitten ( about 6-7 months and weighs about 5 pounds) from our work friend about 2 weeks ago. The day we got him we noticed that he was infested with fleas, he also had a bad case of diarrhea, we also noticed that he sneezes quite a bit. That day we got rid of the fleas but all of the other symptoms still exist. Since then he's still has diarrhea, his stools are very slimmy, wet and has a foul smell it's also a very light brown color, he has trouble holding it in till he gets to one spot of the litter box. We are unable to take him to the vet because we have been busy with finals and work. A couple of days ago a friend bought him a Liquid De-wormer which we just gave to him and now his diarrhea has worsened to the point where he can barely hold it before he gets to the litter box. Please if anyone has any idea whats wrong with our kitten and help would be greatly appreciated.

How can I relieve my cats stress?

I just moved and my cat getting stressed now. She growls whenever I hug or pet her. My kitten is 12 weeks old. Normally she is a very active kitten. Automatic Cat Litter Boxes...?

From what I hear from clients at the vet office I work at, the automatic boxes generally don't work well for long-term (getting clogged, expensive to replace batteries, parts, etc..) and most cats won't use it because it frightens them. You could try it and see because every cat is different, but I wouldn't waste MY own money on one. I bought an automatic meal feeder recently. That's money well spent lemme tell you, ahhhh I get to sleep in now past 5 in the morning ;)

Well.....you could try calling the company that makes the product...alot of the time they have specialists that help out with things like that. Also you can try maybe adding heat to it with a blow dryer while the stuff is in your hair but I've never used the product so I don't want to tell you and it mess it up. More Pet Rat Questions and Help?

I got two pet rats from the local animal shelter the other day. I got Oreo the day before Snickers because I didn’t realize that it is best to get more than one. They are both about six weeks old and litter mates. Yesterday I noticed that they were wrestling. They kept rolling around on top of each other and making soft squeaking noises. I can’t tell if their fighting or playing. They chase each other around and tackle each other. Last night they kept wrestling for like an hour I would get them to stop sit down and they would do it again. Is it serious? I can’t tell. I take them out of the cage everyday and hold them and I haven’t seen any scabbing or bleeding. Is this normal? Can it lead to something more serious? Please help. Black oil sun flower seeds, seedless grapes, and even tomato. Is this ok for them?

Bold & Beautiful - Brooke's change?

Did anyone else catch on that Brooke is going through an emotional "crisis" ? The way it's being written she is probably going through suicidal plans. She's giving away all her money, giving away personal gifts, saying how she's "repented", setting up grants, and being written with a "calm" attitude like she's "made up her mind". These things are all behaviors that a person planning to commit suicide does. ( I don't know about giving your husband back to your old enemy & his previous wife, though. That's new.). They'll probably write this in & she'll take an overdose or do something else dramatic. That way, Thomas will really feel guilty & he'll confess all to everyone. Even Stephanie won't see that coming talk about guilt. Brooke will almost die, then poor Taylor will lose out again & Ridge will bounce back to Brooke again. I hope Taylor gets a few weeks of happiness before the whole thing explodes. Anyone else see these signs or others?

My new cat won't poop and hardly eats/drinks. Should I give him time or do something else?

Being as there are not vets that come to this forum, rather then giving the wrong advice as to what is wrong with this kitten, we like to tell people to just take the kitten to a vet.

It's not a bad start. I especially liked the setting that you established. You have a few spelling and grammar issues, but those are easy to resolve. Also, your sentence structure is very repetitive; you start many of your sentences with "I", which gets tiring after a while. As for the story itself, it's not bad, maybe just a little cliche (lonely girl with hardly any friends is a stereotypical character in YA lit). You might try to make it more out-of-the-ordinary. Don't be afraid to mix-in completely unique scenarios and characters. That's what will make your audience want to read more. Stick with it!

Potty Training Prairie Dog?

I have a juvenile female prairie dog. She was captured about 2 months ago and has been living in our house since then. She is very friendly and tame and is let out of her cage several times a day to run around the house. The only problem I have with her is potty training. I put a corner litter pan in her cage with about an inch of recycled litter and began picking up her droppings and placing them in the litter. She will occasionally use the litter pan when she is confined to her cage but when she is out she will urinate wherever she happens to be. The cage is at ground level and the door is left open when she is out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get her to use the litter pan? The droppings aren't that bad to pick up off the living room floor but I just can't have her urinating on our furniture.

Is there a bedding out there that my rabbits can't kick all over my floor?

One of my rabbits binkies all day long and kicks up the bedding on the bottom of the cage and it gets everywhere. I get that rabbits will be messy, but this is ridiculous. And yes, their cage is big enough (about 12 sq feet) and they get a minimum of 3 hours of time outside of their cage to stretch their legs, so she's not mad and kicking to be a pest, she's just really happy all the time and makes a huge mess... I'm always sweeping around their cage! Is there a bedding (not litter, I use yesterdays news in the litterbox) that is maybe heavier, or is too large to be kicked through bars that are 1" apart?

I have naturally blonde hair kind of dishwater color. I dyed it black and continued every month or so redying for about six months. I havent dyed my hair in now almost 4 months my roots hair grown out about an inch maybe more and the color has faded to a dark reddish brown. I've been doing Abdominal exercises for a fair while now (And before i get someone saying about it, no I'm not just doing crunches, crunches and more crunches. Wouldn't recommend it. The chlorine would still be present on the dog's nipples and it may make the puppies sick. You would have to completely bathe the dog before she went to her puppies . The chlorine smell alone could affect them. Get a kiddie pool for her with only fresh water, but she will need to be completely dry before returnng to the puppies.

It is a neutered male. He pisses on the couch non stop. He has a huge litter box that he and 3 other cats share plus a smaller one. I will wash the couch cushions and not 20 mins after putting them back on he pissed on them again. I'm planning on getting rats soon but I only have a pet store by me and no breeders. I know when you get them from a pet store you don't no their background or they could be mean or sick but, when I'm choosing the rat and holding it will it show if it's sick or mean? I have a cat litter box question?

I help with a rescue and have 6 cats currently (All spayed and neutored). All the cats have some kind of special needs. I love every one of them dearly they are my four-legged kids LOL. Here is the question what automatic litter box would you say is best for this many cats and depending on what the needs are can have two or three more so let me know please. The six cats will never be able to be adopted so I will keep them unless a proper home is found and where I live that is very slim it would ever happen. The chance of me giving these animals up are slim to nil though because I have had all six of them over a year. LOL Thank you ahead of time for answering this, I appreciate it very much. Take a couple of fabric softener sheets and put them in warm water. Put the dirty grill pan in and leave over night. The fabric softener " softens" the grease, burnt on food and what ever and makes clean up very easy.

Well you can get a Lion dung based repellent, but that might be gross too. I asked the cat defense league for advice on behalf of an Indian lady downstairs with this problem. ok there is this mutt (not sure what it is) that has found itsway to my parents house. There is a lot strays and abused animals around our house so my mom keeps dog food and cat food out at all times. Her owner knows shes there but doesnt come and get her. I REALLY want a baby guinea pig..?

I was planning on getting another guinea pig Wednesday, and I was considering a male--to go with my female. Then I read a page on cavyspirt.com that changed my mind completely. What should I know about raising a litter of puppies?

I recently took in a mother and her six pitbull puppies from someone who could not care for them. Looking for advice on what to do since I've never raised puppies before. I already have information about vaccinations and deworming. They're only 2 wks but I'm not sure if I should be doing anything extra to help socialize them and deal with behavioral issues since they're pitbulls. Also, the mom is very thin. I have her on puppy food but not sure if I should be giving her anything extra. I appreciate any and all advice!

I just recently got two kittens, they are great but there poop really stinks which of corse poop is not supposed to smell like roses, so my problem is my house is smelling yucky, I have a covered litter box, not one with a flap because they don't like it, and I am using fresh step litter. Female cat keeps stealing Mommy kitties newborn kitten?

My female cat just had two kittens last night, sad to say that one died :( Anyways she has decided to keep the kitten under my bathroom sink, which isn't a big deal at all. Well, my other female cat keeps going under the sink and stealing the newborn kitten and trying to hide it in another part of my apartment. 4-5 week old kitten (female) peeing blood?

I rescued a (estimated) 4 week old female kitten. I have been giving it Hartz milk replacement and give it a tiny bit of Whiskas cat food twice a day (not the crunchy solid food but the wet solid food). We took it to the vet about a week ago and they gave it medicine to de-worm it but said that it was too young for shots. The kitten knows to use the litter box and does regularly. However every other day (or two) she will pee and it looks like gooey blood is coming out. When she gets this gooey blood coming out it isn't really a liquid and stays attached to her until I wipe it away. Also she starts peeing everywhere (except the litter box, which she knows to use) when the blood is there. After I wipe/pull away the blood (sometimes it doesn't come off if you just wipe) she attempts to pee and more comes out, and it practically blocks her from peeing. When this happens it normally lasts about an hour or two before it just returns to normal. Does anyone know whats going on with her? She hasn't been stepped on or injured in anyway so I don't really know whats happening.

Also about replacer- it has a limited shelf life and has to be refridgerated. I've done some rescue pup before and they have a tend to go to the food more-so than the milk. My best guess is the milk is like instant milk is to us. I think you're doing a good job and good luck.

Adding power attic ventilation with Cobra vent?

I have an attic space with a bonus room. The room sits under a high-pitched roof and there's a large triangular space above it which ends with an exterior wall. There is a Cobra ridge vent above the room. During the summer, the attic space gets very hot and it's hard to keep the room cool. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to install a gable vent with a thermostatic fan to draw cool air into the space above the room, or would this interfere with the Cobra vent?

What should I do about my cats?

I agree with the other person if you were to get then neutered they would settle down a lot. When they start using the bathroom in other places besides the litter box they are marking there territory. That is what boy cats do unless neutered.

okayy..so i have two cats. they're both male and they're a year old. also they're brothers. now i can't afford to pay for them to go to the vet to get their shots or to get nurtured. i live with my family still..me and my boyfriend do and they're our cats. my mom doesn't have the money to pay for them to go either. i mean we have money for food and litter and all that you know. but its really expensive for their shots and stuff. and also i believe one of them might have a bladder infection because he keeps trying to pee EVERYWHERE and nothings coming out and when he does pee some blood comes out with it.. my aunt said it cold be kidney stones also. but anyways. what im trying to ask here is if someone can help me find some place that will take them that wont euthanize them. i want them to go to someone who can afford to pay for them. and make them better. so thats why i will NOT take them to the animal shelter here because they'll put them down right away..because right now they have an over abundance of cats. i also found a place called paws humane society or something like that. but they dont actually take the animals they just help with you're payment of the shots and what not. which still if they helped us it would be 65 dollars for each of them to get their shots and neutered which we just dont have the extra 130 dollars right now. im not someone who would put my cats outside. i want them to go to someone or some place that will treat them with love and care for them. so im asking if anyone can help me find a place around my area. i just dont know how i would search for that. i live in machesney park, illinois. which is right outside of rockford. so anything in rockford would work too. it can be a cat sanctuary, or maybe foster families. or something like that you know. but NOT the winnebago county animal shelter. i will not take them there. so please dont suggest that. thank you to anyone that takes the time to help me with this. i appreciate it so very much.

I'm not able to view your picture, but I could make a guess. I've seen that happen with rats with crooked or broken teeth. They have trouble eating and therefor don't get enough food to grow. Check her teeth to see if they look straight or overly long. If that isn't the problem, you may want to take her to the vet. Some size difference is normal, but if they're as different as you say, she might have something wrong with her.

I got this product at wall-mart last night and treated my cat with it. She goes outside quite often. About a month ago my husband spread tick granduals on the yard and this helped alot keeping the ticks off the cat and the kids. I got this product just to give an extra boost for the tick and flea protection. She is a great mouser but I was afraid of her getting parasites from mice and birds she kills outside, so I put a collar with a bell on it around her neck. I don't want to keep her in the house all the time. She refuses to use a litter box unless it is raining or super-cold outside. She goes outside like a dog would. Fine with me, keeps the house from smelling. My question is does this product (hartz ultragaurd pro for cats) work well? Is there something better? I don't want to keep her prisoner inside the house, but I want to be as safe as I can be letting her out.

Can I get my puppy deposit back?

We have a $500 (non-refundable) deposit down on a Siberian Husky puppy. Unfortunately recently my boyfriend and I have decided not to stay together. I called the lady last night and told her my boyfriend and I would no longer be living together. And if she could please make an exception and refund our deposit. She said no. She could carry the deposit to the next litter. Which doesn't help us at all. Unless she can find someone else to take the puppy. But I don't really feel like this is fair especially since she wasn't living up to her promises anyways (viewings) We would like to just leave it and forget about it but $500 is a lot of money. I hate my job. I HATE MY JOB!?

I HATE MY JOB! hatehatehatehatehatehatehatehate it. I have waaaay too much education for what I do, and any time I try to use said education to up the quality of what goes on around me, I get stomped on by the powers that be (but only indirectly because they are supposed to be supportive of creativity and initiative), and abused by the people that are only indirectly affected, but in a powerful position. I work in a field that is designed for mindless, rule-following, conformist sheep, and because I don’t fall into that category, my work life is HELL ON EARTH. And the worst part?? Everyone I know, both in the same field and otherwise, always say the same thing “I can’t imagine why you have such a hard time! You have so much to offer. Anyone should be thrilled to have a creative, hard-working, interesting and passionate individual working for them.” Oh yeah? Well, why the **** can’t I find something else to do with all this supposed brilliance?

Pet stain removal? Kitty Litter stain in carpet?

I'm moving out of an apartment and I have some stains on my carpet that I really don't feel like paying an arm & a leg for when I leave. I purchased some bissel pet stain remover cleaner (it was like $25 bucks for a small bottle so I think it's some good stuff!) But the stain still isn't coming out. The stain is from a kitty litter box falling over so the urine mixed with kitty little got into the carpet and left this weird stain. I also tried pouring water and then soaking it up with a towel. The stain got about 50% better. Any tricks out there? Anybody have this problem before? Please help thanks!

No, not always. I doubt the litter increases each time, but I will guess the first litter might be a tad smaller than the others. The litter size depends on chance, so you'll have to wait and see. Usually the amazing numbers of kits, pups, etc. are rare. But its always possible.

Dark Brown to Platinum Blonde?

I was on the same boat as you, same time last year i decided i wanted to go from black to platinum, just because it faded doesn't mean the dye isn't there, there is still black dye and it will take bleach to get you to what you want. it took me 3-4 bleachings over the span of a year to get to the platinum blonde color (thats witth me going to a professional to have it done, getting a lot of hair trimmed off, tons of deep conditioning treatments, and the ended use of heat styling tools). my hair looked like a dark brown and i thought it would be ok but even a 40 volume bleach couldn't get it that high in one shot. but dont be discouraged, im just trying to make sure your hair doesnt fall out. i recommend doing the bleachings slowly with at least a month in between each one and getting trims. my hairs very dead and i went at a really slow rate, going that fast could cause your hair to fall out.

ok there is this mutt (not sure what it is) that has found itsway to my parents house. There is a lot strays and abused animals around our house so my mom keeps dog food and cat food out at all times. Her owner knows shes there but doesnt come and get her. Shes been at my moms for about 2 months now. She goes home one day a week, but doesnt stay long. Shes had several litters, you can see her bones even though she eats. And needs alittle medical care. I think with lots of love she will be the perfect addition to our family. She is the happiest most loveable dog ive ever met. Im thinking i should just take her. She lives with my parents anyway. But i would also be stealing a mans dog and i dont want that to be heald against me on judgement day. Hi, I bred rabbits for 4h too. Honestly, what my experience was, is that if you are wanting to sell the rabbit's babies, you should breed in the same kind of rabbit and then the markings will be fine no matter what. My opinion is that the markings would be fine and fairly cute. Even sometimes you get a whole different color of rabbit from one of their parents' parents. The markings can sometimes be unpredictable, but I think you should just do what you want to do.

If you really insist on getting the tattoo now, make your parents give you a chance to explain why you want it. Tell them what it means to you, and try to make the tattoo seem as innocent as possible. Usually what I do to convince my mom to take me to the piercing shop is say something along the lines of "if you don't let me get it I'll find a way to get it done myself" which sort of scares her into letting me get it and assures her that I'll be getting the piercing done safely and will be obeying the law. (I know that method can be a little harsh, haha) If you propose the idea of the tattoo to them calmly and maturely, they may be convinced that you're ready to handle it. If they still aren't shaken by whatever you say, best thing is to wait until you're 18. Just a couple more years, right?

First suggestion would be to pick up a good book on gunsmithing. If you like to work with guns you will pick up some great ideas. As for sandpaper, wet & dry with a grit no larger than 600 might work. You don't want to do something too harsh or you leave ugly marks on the barrel. You can buy cold blue material for touch up work...but it might not match the rest of the barrel. One thing you can do if you have a good buffing wheel is to buff the entire set of barrels and apply cold blueing to the full set of barrels...at least that will make them all the same color. If you really get into the project you can do hot blueing but that is messy and time consuming. And you still have to polish the barrels. Get a book, however, and follow some instructions for cleaning up the barrels. The gun is a good gun, possibly made by Rossi and sold first around 20 years ago, As for the sloppy varnish, you can also re-finish the gunstock and if you get ambitious, you can add some checkering. This could be a great project if you get into the idea.

Why does my hair grow so slow?

Six years ago I cut my hair to chin length. Since then it has only grown six inches. I read that hair grows at an average rate of 1/2 inch a month, At this rate my hair would have grown six inches in a year but it has taken six years to get that length. My hair is naturally curly. I have never colored it and I do not blow dry or straighten it. I take good care of my hair and rarely put it up. I am wondering if this is an indication of a disease. What was the larvae I just found on my arm?

It was very small, looked just like a maggot, similar in color, but did not have a dark spot on its face. It was also smooth and appeared to be shiny or slimy, and didn't have the ridges that maggots have. He would balloon his face/upper body up and seemed to crawl kind of like an inch worm.
