Blonde roots, black hair?

So I dyed my hair black a month ago, now I want to go back to my natural color which is medium to light brown but I don't want to wait. I bleached my hair but the roots turned really blonde and the rest was just brown. In other words, I messed up with the bleach. Do you think if I color it, It'd just be lighter at the roots and really dark at the tips or do you think my hair would be able to pick up the medium brown color from the dye? I used Ion Color Brilliance Creme Lightener to bleach my hair and I'm going to use Clairol Professional Soy 4 Plex iquicolor Lightest Red/Neutral Brown and it's permanent dye.
