Blonde to Red turned Orange. Help?

I have had colored (not bleached) very light blonde hair for a year or so. I decided I wanted a dark red so we used Ion Color Brilliance creme hair color Medium Intense Red Blonde 7IR-77.66 Everything turned out a great color except for my roots which for some reason turned orangish. Should I re dye the roots with the Medium Intense Red or dye my whole head a darker shade? (Im not worried about damage to my hair because its healthy and short. So whatever ideas you have are fine)
